Jaylen Brown’s long-term future with the Boston Celtics is less certain than Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis’s due to the challenges of having two Supermax deals on the roster once Tatum signs his this summer.

Brad Stevens is always reinventing the wheel as Celtics President of Basketball Operations, making fringe moves like the did this past deadline for Springer and Tillman, but oftentimes making bigger splashes; ie. swapping out Kemba Walker for Al Horford, turning Romeo Langford and Josh Richardson into White, packaging Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith and more to land Malcolm Brogdon, and then, of course, sending away Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingis.

Smart was the longest-tenured Celtic, but Stevens still saw it as a necessary risk to try and find a championship formula. Brown slid into that role when No. 36 left the city of Boston, and given the case the CelticsBlog staff made — essentially, the Cs payroll isn’t big enough for him and Tatum if this isn’t a title team — it feels natural that the Marietta, Georgia native would be the next key piece to go.
