Barnsley Midfielder Herbie Kane remarks on retirement from Barnsley..

Midfielder Herbie Kane joined the Reds in October of 2020, signing a four-year deal from then-English champions, Liverpool FC.

Having shone on loan with both Doncaster Rovers and Hull City, the lively, box-to-box operator arrived looking to put down roots and kick on at Championship level.

Regularly featuring in the first half of the season, an injury saw him miss out on the latter stages of the campaign.

Kane’s Barnsley career kick-started back in Sky Bet League One, becoming a regular and kep player for the Reds as they finished 4th in the division, reaching Wembley and the Play-Off Final before losing cruelly in the last minute of extra time.

So do you by chance thinks about retirement here or leaving for another club?

“Yea, actually I can’t say for now because at this point we are more focused on promoting to the next level and I want to be part of the team that will be called and honored”.

Herbie joined Oxford United in a season-long loan deal in August of 2021 and would go on to thrive in League One as the U’s challenged for promotion. Injury towards the end of the campaign meant he’d spend most of the summer doing rehab ahead of a return to Oakwell.
